Delay Venting Topic

Some folks got really upset by the last delay to the launch, so I’m opening this topic to let people vent as it’s better to air frustration than to let it fester.

I just want to say it in preamble that, first of all of this is a community of like-minded people coming together for a mission. We’re all volunteers, there is no external funding and we’re all trying to do our best with the resources we have. And if there is a problem, the right approach is to come together and ask how you can help.

Second, this is a super ambitious early stage project, and delays are pretty much inevitable. Yes, we should do better a job of communicating them, but on the other hand, if you join a project like this, you kinda have to expect them. To put things in perspective, see this recent post announcing a delay in launching by the Dusk Network which is a venture funded project.

Can the team please keep their word for once? You guys are really letting everyone down and treating us like monkeys. This will only reduce the trust of this project in the outside world, or do not give us hope in the first place, over and over again postponed, ask how many times from July 20 to now postponed? The market is rising, you do not open the withdrawal of coins, the market is falling even more will not be open, the next extension time is not Christmas, or that the project is completely rotten? Why don’t you just tell everyone that you won’t issue any more coins?

I introduced this program to many friends around, so that they joined together, when others are questioning the credibility of the program, I have time and again to cheer them up, but this time I was tossed by you guys lost faith, can not understand the team to the degree of doing what? Which sentence is the truth?

First of all, I appreciate the contribution and effort made by the unpaid volunteers, but whether they are paid or not, the fact that they are able to issue a statement here means that they have the authority to do so and are speaking externally on behalf of the Crown. Since delays can’t be avoided, why can’t you avoid reducing those delays and reducing the number of times people are disappointed? How do you keep making people trust this team and this project like this and how do you make external investors rely on this project? Who will dare to invest? Have you ever considered that the degree and number of failures will also affect the investment of external funds? Moreover, such delays always catch us miners by surprise. We had planned for the number of servers, but you guys have messed it up. A good project needs community support, and is in the continuous improvement of progress, rather than a step to the sky, everything has to be completely perfect before going public, then the vegetables are cold, so that those of us who invested a lot in the early cost of the machine how to live?

For me: I continue on as best as I can and I just say it straight up to those I’ve talked to about this project (i.e. recommended it to): I believe that it will happen, maybe not by this date or that date… hopefully by this date. Cassie has always delivered on her goals, despite being late at times, so I’m not worried.

If one of my friends thinks this is a deal breaker, then I would understand if they stopped participating. However, while I do not like the delays, I am not all that worried and am going to continue on as usual to the best of my abilities with the resources I have for the current circumstances. Friends or other fellow miners can call it quits or keep going… it’s their choice and I’ve told them of mine.

To be fair, ask dev team to fix the broken bridge, much easier than finding flaws and coding new solutions or bugs day by day, and let miners decide whether to sell QUILs or keep them. Currently it’s all personal will in charge of this project. We don’t trust anyone but blockchain consensus. By months the team is locking miners’ resources they have put into the project. Waiting is dying!

Thats not how a network works.

Sure, you can ask to have the bridge reopened, but the answer remains it wouldnt be a simple throw of a switch.

The bridge application on the network can’t just be “reopened” and still work as-is. Perhaps for older rewards, but def not for 1.4.19+ rewards, which is likely what everybody is wanting. The code may have changed enough as well to make it more work to rework it to the previous condition than to just go forward.

I’m not going to put a ton of time re-iterating the technicals from my perspective as that already exists somewhere in another post on here.

We know you want rewards, I do, too. Ultimately we have to assume that there is a good reason that Cassie is doing it the way she is.

I’ll repost here what I have already posted on Discord/Telegram. My 2 cents.

I fully understand that the continuous delays are frustrating. I myself am starting to feel a bit of frustration, although my conviction in Q remains steel-hard.

In my opinion, this is more of a communication issue than anything else, but Cassie is fully owning this and she will try to improve communication in the future.

That being said, you can really feel how much Cassie cares about Q. Many big teams in the space have rushed delivering protocols to avoid the “FUD threat,” which often ends up in issues that lead to hacks. Yes, she is “almost” alone handling this, and this is because she never bent to Q being funded via token warrants (aka VCs that will later dump on you). The funding will come, and more devs will be hired, but it’s a marathon, not a sprint.

How to make comms better

IMO it’s good to set “targets”, not “final ETAs”. Because the latter are almost always delayed in IT, and there comes the frustration (since people don’t get what the “E” in ETA actually means :-).
Instead, we should set milestones, and the final milestone should just be a “window” of time that you only confirm when you have triple-checked and tested everything, and even then you always leave a 10 days buffer before the actual launch.

what’s going on with this project? all delay and even not a single update on github for a long time? wait for what ? look at the LP in the uniswap pool, people are leaving. will 2.0 never be released?

2.0 source code is closed source until release. The latest ETA is here: PSA: 2.0 Launch Steps - #85 by abo

Can you finally confirm that the final release date is 10/10, 11:00pm UTC, and if you can’t confirm it then please remove the ETA time you’ve given, and stop hurting people endlessly by giving them hope and then letting them down again over and over again? You guys can go post a poll to test how many people still believe what you guys are saying? Stop reducing Quili’s credibility to the public, you’re hurting the people who trust you and hurting the Quili program at the same time.

Yes, the release date for 2.0 is 10/10, 11:00pm UTC.

I understand your frustration as this has been a rocky road to get to final launch. It isn’t a simple process to successfully estimate timeframes for software, especially adversarially-resistant distributed software, and the testing isn’t something that can be done all-in-one as some tests contain scenarios that need to be evaluated in isolation, meaning the ordering of tests can lead to issues discovered at later times.

I don’t know who or what originally introduced you into the project, but I appreciate your passion towards seeing it succeed. It’s important to remember at the end of the day though, all of us are human, and humans can have errors, especially on the topic of predicting timelines in software development.

Thank you very much cassie for coming out and responding to my question, I’ve been involved in this project for several months now and have put in a lot of server costs. I can understand how the project must have encountered a lot of unpredictable issues during its development and thus needed time to deal with them. As I said in my post above, people aren’t afraid of waiting for time to deal with problems, but they are afraid of being disappointed over and over again, and I’m sure I speak for the majority of people when I say that.

My statement is absolutely well-intentioned, on the one hand, I hope the project can be released successfully, on the other hand, I hope the team will pay attention to this time issue in the future announcements, don’t make the time so dead, let the project and the team lose the credibility at the same time, it also hurt Quili as a project, I hope cassie can understand me! Lastly, thank you for your selfless dedication with the team, and I wish our Quili a smooth launch and a brighter future!

DELAY NO MORE, my ass!

Thank you for being so considerate when it comes to solar flare. Would you please reassign mining rewards for my disqualified machines earlier this year for the sake of complete fairness?!

Let’s place our bets. I’m ready for another delay.
1:An alien invasion?
2:Trump attacked?
3:Or Grandma getting ready to go to the dentist?
SO, Cassie. if developing Quil is really difficult, just say so. Don’t make these funny excuses to fool everyone over and over again.
The ones who have been able to stick around until now are the ones who trust you.
Don’t let everyone down again and again.
Don’t make us into clowns.

I can’t believe the sun would come across hundreds of thousands of kilometres and attack my computer.

If that’s true, then I must have destroyed the world in my last life.

I underestimated the sun. It’s hundreds of millions of kilometres.
Do you really think that the sun is going to come across hundreds of millions of kilometres and start an attack on my SSD, on my computer, on Quil?

She is really kidding everyone!
If solar flares will have a big impact, why not pause the BTC network?! And Vitalik should have given a patch already!
